Here are the 56 New York schools with positive coronavirus cases

NEW YORK CITY – Education officials have released a list of 56 New York City schools with confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

The disclosure comes less than a week before the students returned to classrooms, and days after authorities revealed the positive tally of cases without widely informing parents of all school locations.

Most of the schools on the list have only one positive case, according to education ministry officials. Two other schools – the first PS 811X The Academy for Career and Living Skill in the Bronx and, more recently, PS 139 in Brooklyn – had two separate suspected cases, resulting in automatic 24-hour shutdowns.

The first case at PS 139 was confirmed late last week, education ministry officials said. Another suspected school case was reported to the city’s new coronavirus “situation room” on Tuesday and led to the preventive shutdown, they said.

In total, the official number of confirmed cases stands at 56 as of Wednesday morning.
