Kate Garraway has expressed grief after saying she was unable to see her husband Derek Draper on their anniversary today. The 53-year-old took a break from Good Morning Britain to help her children get settled into school last week.

She is also caring for Derek as he continues to recover from Covid-19, which he contracted earlier this year.

Derek still remains in the hospital but has woken up from his coma and is recovering from the extensive damage caused by the virus.

However, she returned today and revealed it was her wedding anniversary with Derek – but she couldn’t see him.

She told hosts Susanna Reid and Adil Ray, “It’s actually Derek and I’s wedding anniversary today, amazingly.

“15 years old today – Richard and Hilary were there that day, I think. But yes, what an extraordinary thing.

“I won’t be able to see him today. I was hoping he would but it didn’t work out that way for tours. But maybe that would be a little strange anyway.

“So yeah, it’s a tough day but he’s still here. Not much that has changed. ”

Kate had updated her fans in July, announcing that Derek had come out of his coma in a “minimum state of consciousness.”

She added that she hadn’t seen her co-stars in ages, saying, “There’s so much going on in these two weeks – seemingly positive and plunging. ”

She told GMB viewers in late August that she would take time to help her son Billy and daughter Darcey get back to school.

Kate also said she would take care of Derek.

The host continued to thank her for thanking her co-stars for their support during such a difficult time.

She said, “I just want to say thank you to all of you for being absolutely awesome since coming back through some rough times.

“Everyone here, you, Ben, Adil and everyone on the screen has been amazing.

“The good thing is everyone says ITV and TV is brutal business, and they aren’t, it’s family and you’ve all been great. ”
