While players have mentioned Lampard’s influence, the Chelsea boss himself has now admitted his role in promoting these deals.

“You understand when it’s competing with players like Liverpool and Manchester City that you have to put your best case on the player,” Lampard said.

“I think having been that player at one point, the idea as a manager is to try and sell the club and how I want to move forward.

“Petr (Cech) in his role does the same and I do it to the best of my ability when talking to players.

“With a player like Timo (Werner) we were very, very keen to bring him in. He needs to feel that on our part, I liked everything he said to me in these kinds of conversations. And the same with all these kinds of players I’ve talked to.

“I think the manager-player conversation is really important because our relationship has to be good and positive going forward.

“All you can do is do your best as a club because you know the competition is doing its best, so I think we can be happy to have signed players of their level. This is how we tried to work. “

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has said he understands his second season as manager will bring ‘different pressure’ after spending more than £ 200million on six summer signings.

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has said he understands his second season as manager will bring ‘different pressure’ after spending more than £ 200million on six summer signings.

Werner and Havertz are set to feature in Chelsea’s Premier League opener at Brighton, live on Monday Night Football, but Ziyech came out with a knee problem and Chilwell sidelined with the aftermath of a complaint at the heel.

Silva only started training on weekends, so the trip to Amex Stadium comes too early for the former Paris St Germain defender, but Christian Pulisic and Cesar Azpilicueta could feature on the south coast.

Chelsea’s new side will need time to adjust and for the new signings to fit into Premier League life.

Time was running out during a staccato pre-season thanks to the coronavirus’s continued influence, with Lampard well aware that his new faces will all be settling in at a different pace.

“I’m happy and now it’s the second step; it’s about setting them up and playing to the best of their ability, ”Lampard said.

“We have to give them all a little time, the players who are coming in to get down to business. “
