Music fans voted in a poll released Friday, September 11, on Billboard, choosing the inspiring ode to mental health as their favorite new music release from last week.
“OK Not to Be OK” garnered 52 percent of the vote this week, beating new music from Usher (“Bad Habits”), Major Lazer and Mr. Eazi (“Oh My Gawd”), David Guetta and Sia ( “Let’s Love”), and others.
In an interview with Apple Music, Marshmello explained that the emotional topic of ‘OK not being OK’ has taken on new meaning, given that it was released on World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10 ).
“I think this is such an important topic,” said the DJ-producer. “I think a lot of people, about negative feelings and negative thoughts that affect them, are a little afraid to talk about it, are afraid to talk about it. In reality, they are afraid because maybe the person isn’t going to tell the story or the person won’t understand, when in reality most of the time the person you could talk to will most likely have felt this or will also understand or be able to relate. So I think it’s very important to talk about it. ”
Coming in second on this week’s poll was the “other” category, which accounted for nearly 24 percent of the vote.
Third with 6.5% of the vote, Usher’s classic R&B song “Bad Habits” arrived the same week the singer superstar announced his upcoming Las Vegas residency.
Major Lazer and M. Eazi’s “Oh My Gawd”, starring Nicki Minaj and K4mo, was fourth (6.3%), and Guetta and Sia’s “Let’s Love” was fifth (4.8%) .
