Family of officers pulled from Compton share graphic image of when they were ambushed

The family of a Compton police officer who was ambushed by a gunman over the weekend shared a graphic image moments after being shot.

Two Los Angeles County MPs were injured by a gunman and their families have approved the posting of images showing the graphic moment, FOXLA correspondent Bill Melugin shared on Twitter.

In the image, an MP was standing moments after being shot in her face and in the front of her shift. A male MP is seen on the ground with a blood soaked hand with a gun on the ground in front of him.

“I am told that a Member of Parliament was shot in the jaw, that she always received help over the radio and applied a tourniquet to a Member’s wounds. Both are stable now, ”Mr. Melugin reported.

The two cops – a 31-year-old mother and a 24-year-old man – were shot at point blank range at 7 p.m. Saturday in Compton, California. Although they were shot several times during the ambush while their vehicle was parked, officers were able to radio for help.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department released surveillance video of the ambush, and it showed a lone gunman shooting through the passenger window of the deputies’ vehicle “without warning or provocation,” according to the department.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the two MPs had no surgery and expected to survive, which he called a “double miracle”.

On Monday, the shooter remained at large.

The ministry offered a reward of $ 100,000 for information that could lead to an arrest. Officers only have a “very, very generic description” of the shooter to go on, officials added.

“The suspect is described as a 28-30 year old black man wearing dark clothing. He was last seen heading north on Willowbrook Avenue in a black 4-door sedan, ”the ministry said in a Facebook post.

The office warned the public not to post information on Twitter about the shooter’s identity because they said posts identifying the alleged shooter had the wrong person.

“Currently, there is an article circulating on social media that identifies a man from the Los Angeles area as the suspect responsible for the ambush of our 2 deputies yesterday. This is WRONG information and there are no suspects named or wanted at this time, ”the office read.

Saturday’s shooting occurred hours after hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets to protest the death of Dijon Kizzee, who died in a police shootout with the department.

County officers have come under fire for police brutality and public racism. But it was not clear whether the protests were linked to the shooting later that evening.

“Of course there is an important conversation going on about the police in this country, but these are people putting their lives on the line for us, and we will find justice for them,” Los Angeles Mayor Eric said on Sunday. Garcetti on CNN.
