European champion Giacomo Nizzolo abandons the 2020 Tour de France

Giacomo Nizzolo retired from the Tour de France 2020 on the eighth stage.

The new European champion had a promising first week of Tour by taking a place on the podium at the start of the race, but he was forced to get off his bike in the mountains between Cazères and Loudenvielle.

Nizzolo had been battling a knee injury and the tough day of climbing the eighth stage was in great demand as the NTT Pro Cycling rider climbed into the team car with just over 80km to go.

His team said on Twitter: “Very sad news, our Italian and European champion was forced to give up Round. Details to follow after step. ”

Nizzolo, who is also the Italian national champion, took seventh place after a chaotic opening stage in the Tour de Nice, then followed up with third place in the third stage from Nice to Sisteron.
