Tim Alderslade, PDG de UK Airlines, lambasted the UK government for its “stubborn insistence” on using quarantine requirements rather than airport testing on inbound passengers, and warned of damage to the UK aviation industry.
“Ministers need to be aware that there can be no global Britain without an airline industry that beats the world,” he wrote in a column for the Daily Mail. “The state of affairs, and the lack of urgency to solve a growing problem, is now undermining Heathrow’s once preeminent role as Europe’s global hub. “
Alderslade points out that for the very first time, Paris and Frankfurt airports have carried more passengers in recent months than Heathrow.
“It’s a chilling illustration of our relative decline caused by the UK response to Covid-19,” he says.
