Dr Alex George recounted how “the world fell on his shoulders” when he learned that his younger brother Llŷr had died as a result of a battle with mental health.

Visiting Lorraine on Monday, the Love Island star, 30, said he felt “enormous guilt” as a mental health advocate and described her as “The most difficult time of my life imaginable.

Her 19-year-old brother, Llŷr George, tragically passed away in July and was just weeks away from entering medical school and following in Alex’s footsteps.

In the first interview since Llŷr passed away, Alex described how “the world kind of ended up in this way” and revealed how much of a “little mini me” his little brother is.

Speaking of the night he learned of the tragic news, he said, “I got a phone call from my dad and I could tell on the call. I said, “What happened? Who died? “

“You could tell that something serious had happened. When he said it was Llŷr, the world kind of ended up like that.

He added: “The world almost fell on my shoulders. My little brother Elliot picked me up and we headed back to Wales.

“We sat in silence for about five hours between each of us crying and screaming and just letting out all that kind of anxiety, I guess. “

Speaking of his struggle to cope with the loss, he said, “It’s the difficult thing, I felt tremendous guilt. I am a doctor, I am the elder brother.

“I always wanted to protect and cure him. What could I have done differently? I’m supposed to be a mental health advocate. It was just the worst thing.

The A&E doctor also described how he was “in disbelief” and got into “really dark parts” of his mind on the trip back to Wales.

He said: “It was strange that I got into different parts of my mind on this trip home. Really dark parts of my mind. Just disbelief – I couldn’t believe this had happened.

“As a family, we were so proud of him and that’s why it was such a shock to all of us.

Dr Alex added: “Losing someone due to mental health is obviously very difficult… when someone is 19 years old, [he had] much to look forward to.

The NHS doctor continued: ‘It has shocked me in my professional career and it has now shocked me in my personal life. You can’t predict these things, and mental health can affect anyone.

“We were so excited for him to be such a sweet little boy. In a way, he was a little mini me.

“He had the same passions, he liked medicine, he liked science, he was a bit of a geek like me.

The doctor also recently shared a Just Giving page he created in memory of his late brother, which he posted to his Instagram story in the hopes that his followers could donate.

Just an hour after mentioning fundraising to raise funds for mental health charities, Alex thanked his fans for their immediate contributions, “Wow, you are so generous. Let’s do this! ‘

Alex confirmed that his brother’s funeral took place in early August.
