Cubs name Steven Souza – MLB trade rumors

Between double-sided games with the Cardinals, the Cubs have named outfielder Steven Souza Jr. for the assignment, the team announced. Right handed Tyson Miller has been called back and will be available for tonight’s game.Souza went 0 for 2 with two strikeouts in Game 1 (a 4-2 win for St. Louis), potentially ending his tenure with the Cubs with a batting average of .148 and .591 OPS in 31 appearances at home plate Souza came to Chicago on a one-year contract worth $ 1 million in guaranteed cash during the offseason, but it has been a tough season for the outfielder, who has not produced as plaque and also missed almost two weeks with right hamstring strain.

After missing all of 2019 after major knee surgery, Souza scored a victory returning to the pitch this year, though he’s still looking to regain the form he displayed in his 2015-17 heyday with the Rays. Being claimed from the DFA thread would put a new team on the hook for what remains of Souza’s $ 1 million pro-rata salary, which is only around $ 125,000 at this point and is potentially worth a flyer for a team with need depth of field. Then again, if Souza clears the waivers and is then released, an interested team could then sign him for only a prorated minimum wage, with the Cubs paying the remainder of his guaranteed bill.
