There have been 105 new cases of COVID-19 reported in British Columbia in the past day and one death.

Provincial health worker Dr Bonnie Henry said there were now 1,268 cases of the illness, of which 69 were being treated in hospital, including 20 in intensive care. The number of active cases is declining.

There have been 9,013 cases of COVID-19 reported in British Columbia since the first case emerged in late January in a man who returned to Vancouver from Wuhan, China, on a business trip.

Henry said 3,337 people were under active public health surveillance due to identified exposure to known cases and that 7,485 people who had tested positive have recovered.

“There was one new death related to COVID-19 at Fraser Health, for a total of 234 deaths in British Columbia. We offer our condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic, ”she said.

The death was linked to the outbreak at Delta Hospital, in which 17 people contracted the disease.
