And that’s part of a much more sinister plan to bring Weatherfield to its knees.
Actor Mark Frost, who plays Ray, has revealed that his character hides a dark past and plans to destroy Weatherfield.
He also suggested that someone else at Weatherfield was also secretly helping him behind the scenes.
« [Ray’s] made no secret of his justification for his behavior – when he blackmailed Abi, when he bought the Bistro, “Mark explained. He sees himself as an empire builder. ”
Opening up more to his character, Mark said, “He grew up on streets like Coronation Street, but for him it doesn’t seem like a source of pride or community. We therefore wonder what his past or his education means. almost wants to bury.
“He talks a lot about being a self-taught man – he talks about owning a stand on a road and I think he’s one of those people who thinks because he’s made it through hard work and determination that he doesn’t. there’s no excuse for anyone else.
“He’s one of those types of people who thinks the outward paths to success are all important and you announce that you are a substantial person if you have all of these things. In a way, everything else is fair game. ”
Mark also compared his character to Harvey Weinstein, suggesting that he’s one of those people who “feels like they can get away with anything.
“Because of their position and their power and the fact that they don’t breathe the same air as other mortals,” he said. “There is a deep sadness with the people who do this. It has no roots that we can see. He’s a bit lonely. ”
When asked about Ray’s type of villain, Mark said, “I think he really fits the mold of someone who has achieved his own success and believes that hard work and determination can get you anything, someone who believes in their own hype.
“I don’t think he’s psychotic… I don’t think he would get his hands dirty.
He added that Ray was “more sophisticated” than Phelan.
“He’s a tactician and he has pawns in his chess game,” Mark said.
Speaking to Corrie’s ‘mole’ who is helping him, he teased, “It’s good that there is someone who has kept quiet about their activities, kept under the radar.”
“Their motivation to do it and he might even have an ally to get what he wants. So I think this is all pretty exciting and the development of this will be really interesting. ”
