LYON, France (Reuters) – Colombian champion Sergio Higuita has dropped out of the Tour de France after hitting his head on the ground in a crash at the start of Stage 15 on Sunday.

EF Education First driver Higuita has run 162km since the finish after losing his balance when Luxembourg’s Bob Jungels suddenly deviated ahead of him.

Higuita crashed again a few miles later and got off his bike with 134 km to go. He was conscious and cared for by race medics.

Higuita was 16th overall, 26:12 behind leader General Primoz Roglic of Slovenia.

Two days ago, the French Romain Bardet withdrew from the race following a concussion following a big crash after completing the 13th stage.
