Cat Deeley has admitted that part of the reason she returned from Los Angeles with her family was due to fears of gun violence in the United States.The TV presenter, 43, returned to the UK with her husband Patrick Kielty and their two sons, Milo, four, and James, two, and she revealed it took them three years to make the transition.

They lived in sunny California, but Cat has now explained that part of the reason they decided to return was after Patrick and their eldest son Milo were caught in a terrifying shootout at a mall.

She now feels relieved to be home after swapping her mansion in Los Angeles for an apartment in North London.

Speaking to You magazine, Cat said Patrick and Milo were at the Century City Mall in Los Angeles when FBI agents began ordering shoppers to take cover because there was a gunman on the loose. .

She said, “They closed the center. I got a call from Paddy saying, ‘They’re taking us out through the emergency exits but no one can get into their car. If we are walking towards a crossroads, can you come to us? ‘

“He wanted to keep Milo calm, so I didn’t understand the enormity of what was going on.

“While driving I started to see helicopters, vans, firefighters and SWATs [armed police response] Teams.

“It makes me funny now. It was terrifying… Paddy was shaken by it, more than Milo, who was hot and cranky but didn’t quite understand. ”

She told the magazine that “fear” was part of their decision to return to the UK.

Cat added that she was also pissed off watching school for Milo.

She continued, “There was a time when I was with a friend looking for potential schools for Milo and we had to ask the question that no one wants: ‘What do you do if there is a live shooter on scene? ”

“They tell you exactly what would happen, if the children went to a safe room or hid under desks…

“The danger suddenly becomes a reality. ”

Cat added that they had decided to move at the right time so Milo could start school in the UK, as she was happy that the children could now spend more time with their grandparents.
