British Airways flight declares emergency over Bristol Channel and ‘dumps fuel’


A British Airways (BA) flight circles the Bristol Channel after declaring an emergency while flying between London and New York.It is believed that the Boeing 777-200ER dumped fuel to make it “lighter” before landing.

Flight tracker shows the plane circling over the Bristol Channel, passing through Portishead, Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare.

The passenger plane took off from Heathrow at 3:38 p.m. but sounded the alarm less than an hour later at 4:15 p.m.

One person wrote on Twitter: ‘This is definitely not the kind of drag you want to see an airplane take off – BA 777 G-VIIC spilling fuel at FL100 over the Bristol Channel was LHR-JFK now returning to LHR. ”
