Bristol City forward Famara Diedhiou has become a “transfer priority” for Dijon’s Ligue 1 side, according to reports in France. As Robins head coach Dean Holden confirmed on Monday, Diedhiou has been offered a new contract at Ashton Gate beyond his current contract which expires next summer, but it remains unsigned.

Foot Mercato reports that Dijon wants to sign the Senegalese striker to replace Julio Tavares, linked to Saudi Arabia, Diedhiou having developed a solid reputation in France during his time in Angers and Clermont.

City feel they have made a competitive offer to the 27-year-old, who was named player of the year last season, but their hands are to some extent tied although Holden insists the club don’t. is under no pressure to sell.

“I like it in pieces,” Holden told BBC Radio Bristol. “People know how I feel about Fam.

“We had good conversations with him. The club made him an offer for a new contract – obviously he is entering his final year. And we are waiting for a response on this.

“I’ve had good conversations with him and he wants to stay away from what I can understand.

“We are not under any pressure to sell. Of course, when we are selling and if we are selling, as with any player, we try to do it at the right time and with the right deal. The club has done this over the years. well, I must say.

“It’s dangerous when a player enters the last year of his contract because these days he maybe has a little more power than the club sometimes, because he can obviously be free next summer. ”

With the international transfer window closing on October 5 and nationally on October 16, if Diedhiou is still at BS3 beyond that and with his contract still unsigned, he will almost certainly leave with a free transfer in 2021.

City want to keep their top scorer but don’t want to lose him for nothing either. In the event of a sales agreement, they also need sufficient time to sign a replacement.

The Robins have added Chris Martin to their squad for 2020/21, but Holden favoring a two-attacking system, Nahki Wells, Andi Weimann – who has mainly been used as No10 under the new regime – and Antoine Semenyo is not enough to carry. them through a busy season.

Diedhiou had previously been linked with Turkish giant Fenerbahce, but those ties have calmed down.

Dijon, who made seven signings this summer, is also aiming for a transfer for Swansea winger Bersant Celina.
