A report on Thursday reported that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick told the team that Cam Newton will start quarterback against the Dolphins in Week 1, but the team is not making his intentions public.
Belichick said in a video conference Friday that “any conversation” at team meetings will remain between him and the team. He added that the team will not publicly name the starters to any position.
Belichick said Newton “looks good to go” and said the team’s players made “good selections” for the team captains. Newton was among those picks, which is another sign he will lead the attack at Gillette Stadium on September 13.
Final confirmation of that may have to wait until then and there will be plenty of people watching to see how things play out in the team’s first game in the post-Tom Brady era.
