Joe Biden told a CNN town hall Thursday that President Trump is responsible for every coronavirus death.
“If the president had done his job… had done his job from the start, everyone would still be alive,” Biden told the audience in Pennsylvania. “All people – I’m not making this up. Just look at the data. Look at the data. “
Critics on social media were quick to jump on Biden for his comments.

“Yes, he was responsible for their pre-existing conditions,” wrote one user.
“Can’t wait to check the facts by @CNN,” replied another.
His statement has also been questioned by other mainstream media outlets. Politico said Biden “vastly overestimated the protections that might have worked against the virus.”
Meanwhile, the Washington Post said Biden is “making this up.”
“There is no data to support this, even though the president acted quickly in January to deal with the coronavirus and was able to persuade Chinese leaders to be more open about the situation,” reported the newspaper.

Biden’s remarks come as Trump told Bob Woodward in February that the coronavirus was “a deadly substance” while publicly comparing it to seasonal flu, according to excerpts from some of the interviews released by the Washington Post this month .
On March 19, Trump admitted to Woodward that he “still wanted to play [the virus] down.

In an interview on “The Daily Briefing” Thursday, Woodward told host Dana Perino that Trump “has failed as a leader to warn the American people of the dangers” of COVID-19.
