This year marks the first time in BGT history that the semi-finals have been pre-recorded, and has also seen changes in how the acts will advance to the finals.

Each semi-final will see eight acts take the stage to win over the judges, with some occurring via. Zoom due to travel and social distancing issues.

At the end of the show, the judges will choose an act to advance to the live finale in October, and then viewers can choose the second act by voting.

This means that five of the 10 finalists will not be revealed until the series finale.

It was also a complete change in the jury, with Amanda, Alesha, David Walliams and Ashley Banjo each sitting on separate desks two meters apart.

Due to Simon Cowell’s absence, Amanda was promoted to chief justice, and she was quick to joke that she would support “musical theater to the end”.

Simon was forced to retire after breaking his back in a bicycle accident and after six hours of surgery he recovered at home.

The music mogul insisted the producers made the series the best it could be despite the social distancing in place – and even hinted that it would indeed appear in the live-action finale in October, although he be bedridden.

Britain’s Got Talent airs Saturdays at 8 p.m. on ITV.
