STRICTLY’S first-ever gay partnership has sparked more than 100 complaints – though the show has yet to start.
Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams, 37, will be paired with a pro when the show kicks off next month.
But that turned out to be too much for a minority of viewers who voiced their objections to the BBC.
The Company defended Strictly’s decision to follow in Dancing On Ice’s footsteps and introduce a gay partnership.
A spokesperson said, “Strictly Come Dancing is an inclusive show and is proud to have featured same-sex dances among professional group dancers in previous series.
“We have said in the past that we are open to the prospect of including same-sex couples between our celebrities and our professional dancers if the opportunity arises.
“Nicola Adams asked for an all-female couple, which we are happy to facilitate. The show is above all a question of dance, the sex of each partner within a couple should not have any impact on their routine. ”
The number of complaints is close to the amount received last year when Johannes Radebe and Graziano Di Prima performed the first homosexual routine in the show’s history.
On this occasion, 189 viewers opposed this milestone.
Meanwhile, Nicola has revealed that she will be the first contestant not to wear a Strictly dress.
The athlete requested to take to the dance floor in a pantsuit when performing on the show.
A source told The Sun: “Anyone who knows Nicola knows that her wardrobe consists of jeans and pants, so it really wouldn’t be natural for her to wear a dress.
“As for the chefs at Strictly, it’s a personal choice and they want her to feel comfortable participating.
“The costume department is renowned for going out of its way and thinking outside the box.
“They have lots of theme ideas and are sure to add some sparkle to her pantsuits.
“Nicola knows that glitter is part of the Strictly package.
“She is more than grateful that the producers put her at ease. ”
Nicola, who is dating model Ella Baig, 22, revealed earlier this month that she insisted on being matched with a professional.
She said, “They wanted to know if I wanted to be on the show and I said, ‘Yeah, I’m going to do it, but I want to dance with another woman.’
