Filming on the new Batman movie was halted after a crew member tested positive for Covid-19, which left production in disarray, MailOnline can reveal.

Sources on the £ 100million blockbuster said the cast and crew were sent home after one of the crew was stricken with the virus.

Filming for the film with Robert Pattinson at Warner Bros. Studio in Hertfordshire has stopped, according to a source.

An insider from the Leavesden studio said: ‘We were sent a memo informing us that a member of the team had a positive Covid-19 test.

“Everyone was talking about it on set. We don’t know who tested positive, but it has wreaked havoc on the schedule.

The filming of the new film called “The Batman” had resumed only three days ago after being stopped in early March due to the pandemic.

The production teams had gathered at the studios in Leavesden, Hertfordshire, in August to work on sets after most were put on leave.

The shutdown will cost Warner Bros hundreds of thousands of pounds and possibly even delay the release of the film, which is said to be a crueler take on the hero of the Marvel comics.

When production ceased in March, Robert, 34, had to stay in the UK with other cast members.

Others who live in Los Angeles returned but had to remain in quarantine for two weeks before showing up on set as per government guidelines.

Director Matt Reeves still has three months of shooting to wrap up with the highly anticipated film, which hits theaters in October 2021.

Filming in Leavesden, where the Harry Potter films were filmed, is taking place under the working title of “Vengeance”.

The crew member said: “Everyone was eager to get back to work and it was a blow that production stopped just three days after filming began.

“We’ve all been told to pull out until further notice and we don’t plan to come back to filming for at least two weeks. “

The source said many on the team found it ironic that the Batman movie was stopped by coronavirus, as the killer virus is believed to have originated from bats.

“There is an irony in all of this in that you would think Batman would be immune because it all started with bats,” the insider said.

Robert, best known for his roles in the Twilight Saga films, took on the role of the Capped Crusader last year after Ben Affleck, who had developed the ninth film starring Batman, dropped out.

Irish star Colin Farrell plays The Penguin, and his prosthetic makeup was so realistic that the rest of the cast didn’t recognize the actor when he appeared on set.

Jeffrey Wright, who plays Commissioner Gordon, said on The Jess Cagle Show: “I’ve worked with this makeup artist before and it’s just amazing.

‘Colin walked on set one day and I walked right in front of him [laughs] I was like, ‘OK, hey man what’s going on, where’s Colin? Are we going to shoot? It was, it’s quite remarkable.

The transformation was revealed in a trailer released last week by director Reeves at a fan event in the United States.

Zoe Kravitz stars as Catwoman, and John Turturro plays crime boss Carmine Falcone.

A spokesperson for Warner Bros Studios has been contacted for comment.
