Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to make Ajax star Van de Beek his first signing from the transfer window.
Dutch international passed his medical examination in the Netherlands.
The potential deal will be in the order of € 39 million, plus an additional € 5 million in add-ons. It “should be finished in the next few days while the player is in international service”, reports Sky Sports.
Van de Beek helped Ajax retain their Eredivisie title last season with 10 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. Its shape caught the attention of many of Europe’s big guns. However, it was United who won the race.
With the like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Tottenham are also making requests, Van de Beek clearly had a decision to make.
However, the 23-year-old wasted no time in consulting his best friend in the game, Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong.
De Jong himself moved from Ajax last summer to Camp Nou. And his Netherlands teammate said he has no doubts Van de Beek is making the right choice.
“I spoke to Donny [Van de Beek] about his transfer, ”admitted De Jong. “It’s a great transfer and we are all very happy for him.
“Has he asked me for advice? No, no, he can think for himself.
Transfer expert claims United have a good deal
Sky Sports transfer expert Karveh Solhekol thinks this is a very astute signing from Solskjaer.
“Manchester United did a great deal here,” he said. Sky Sports.
“I think basically they get an £ 80million player for half the price. They are earning him £ 40million because of the coronavirus pandemic as clubs like Real Madrid who wanted it cannot afford it this summer.
“This guy is the real deal.
“He’s a big, big star already, but I think at Old Trafford he’s going to be one of the best players in the world.
“And I think it’s significant that he chose to come to United. I think Real Madrid were in his ear, saying ‘wait for us, we’ll get back to you later this summer or next summer’.
“But he wanted to move to Old Trafford.
