Director James Cameron shared a major update on the state of Avatar 2 This weekend. Cameron and the Avatar The crew worked hard to film the next two sequel to the epic franchise in New Zealand. The team faced production delays earlier in the year due to COVID-19, with travel restrictions within the country as well as general health and safety measures putting everything on hiatus from March to June . Now, after a few months of interesting set photos and some concept art teases, Cameron is offering a truly blue status update on upcoming films.

Cameron has regained his Terminator star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, by video call during the weekend before the Austrian World Summit 2020 environmental conference (via The Independent). “COVID hit us like everyone else had fallen… We lost about four and a half months of production. As a result, we rode for about a full year more for a December 2022 release. This has already been announced. That’s not to say I have an extra year to complete the movie, because the day we deliver Avatar 2 we’re just going to start working on the finish Avatar 3. »

Cameron continued, “So where are we at right now? [is] I’m filming in New Zealand. We shoot the rest of the live-action. We have about 10% left to do. We are 100% complete Avatar 2 and we’re sort of 95% complete on Avatar 3. »

Despite the progress on Avatar Aftermath in the midst of a global pandemic, we learned in July that the release dates for all four planned suites had been delayed again. For Avatar 2, this meant being postponed for a full year from December 2021 to December 2022. As for Avatar 3, its release date has been changed from December 2023 to December 20, 2024. So while it is exciting to hear that progress is being made on the set, it will still be a long time before we see the continuing adventures of Sam Worthingtonby Jake Sully and Zoe SaldanaNeytiri on the distant planet of Pandora.
