Atlantic calls for ‘end Nobel Peace Prize’ after Trump nominations

Atlantic magazine raised eyebrows on Friday by publishing an article calling for the abolition of the Nobel Peace Prize after President Trump was nominated for this prestigious honor.

The president’s name was submitted for the 2021 award by Norwegian lawmaker Christian Tybring-Gjedde, who cited Trump’s role in negotiating a peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Trump has since won a second nomination from Swedish lawmaker Magnus Jacobsson for overseeing an economic deal between Kosovo and Serbia.

The nominations, however, apparently did not please Liberal magazine, which said on Friday that “peace had its chance and ruined it.”

“If Trump wins the prize, it will be the fourth Nobel Prize awarded for peace between Israel and its neighbors,” wrote Graeme Wood, editor of the Atlantic. “This will make Arab-Israeli peace mediators more effective in winning over the Nobel Committee than the International Committee of the Red Cross, which has won the award three times in its 120-year history, but still less successful than my favorite, which is nobody at all.

“Giving the Peace Prize to no one at all is a tradition the Nobel Committee should revive, perhaps permanently,” added Wood. MSNBC, CNN MAINLY IGNORES THE MAJOR OF THE ISRAEL-WATER PEACE OF TRUMP DURING THE PRIMETIME

“This all leads to one of two conclusions,” said Wood. “The Nobel Committee can either bestow the prize on charities such as the Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders… or keep the prize under lock and key for a period of time and reassess its reasoning for a modern era.

“I suspect this reassessment will end, if the committee is honest, in admitting that peace can only be recognized by its fruits, which take decades to mature, and not by its seeds. To continue to reward seeds is to embarrass yourself to court, and to hold yourself hostage to wacky appointments like Trump’s. Better shut it up before the trolls do it first. ”

The article was met with disbelief and criticism on social media.

“I don’t expect the media to like Trump and care about the Nobel Prize, but the hostility here is discrediting,” RealClearInvestigations senior editor Mark Hemingway responded.

“The liberal media is in a mental collapse after Trump’s two Nobel Peace Prize nominations,” NewsBusters analyst Nicholas Fondacaro tweeted.

“Is this a parody story,” asked Josh Hammer, editor of Newsweek.

” It’s silly. Trump is doing something worthwhile, so the whole system has to be burned down? Tweeted Erielle Davidson, senior policy analyst at the Jewish Institute for National Security in America.

“I thought people were just trolling the Atlantic when they said they called for the end of the Nobel Peace Prize in response to Trump’s nomination for 2, but alas, no: it’s real,” said Harry Khachatrian, contributor to the Daily Wire. .

The Atlantic recently made headlines with its explosive reports that alleged President Trump was denigrating fallen World War I soldiers buried in the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris as ‘suckers’ and described the cemetery as being “filled with losers” during a trip to France in 2018.

President Trump, along with current and former members of his administration, has strongly denied The Atlantic reports.
