Aston Villa accept double transfer as Manchester United receive instruction from Jack Grealish

Here are your Aston Villa morning headlines for Monday, September 14.

Martinez signs a four-year contract

Emiliano Martinez will put pen to paper on a four-year contract with Aston Villa once his transfer from Arsenal is complete.

Villa agreed to a fee of around £ 20million – including additions – to sign the 28-year-old goalkeeper.

Martinez was left out of Arsenal’s squad for Saturday’s win over Fulham as he underwent a medical with Villa.

Dean Smith is keen to sign a new stopper ahead of the new Premier League season as Tom Heaton is still recovering from his knee injury.

Heaton, a £ 8million signing from Burnley last year, suffered knee ligament injuries against his former team in January and is not expected to return until mid-October.

Villa Accord Traoré transfer with Lyon

Aston Villa has agreed a fee with Lyon to sign Bertrand Traoré, according to reports in France.

RMC Sport reported on Sunday that Dean Smith’s side have reached a deal worth € 19m (£ 17.5m) to bring the winger back to the Premier League.

They add that the Chelsea academy graduate will undergo a medical exam on Monday before putting pen to paper for a three-year contract.

Villa’s interest in Traore surfaced over the weekend, claiming that an opening bid of £ 15.5million was rejected by Ligue 1.

The 25-year-old right-winger, who is also capable of playing ahead, started 14 games for Lyon last season and has been used nine more times from the substitutes bench as he struggled to push players like Memphis Depay and Moussa Dembele.

Sherwood sends message to Man Utd on Grealish

Tim Sherwood believes Manchester United should seek out Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish before the transfer window closes.

Grealish has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer known to be an admirer of the playmaker’s talents.

However, the £ 80million price set by villa owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens dampened interest in the 24-year-old this summer.

United signed a £ 40million deal for Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek last week, but former Villa Sherwood boss believes Grealish could add a new dimension to Solskjaer’s side .

“When teams go down, that’s when Manchester United struggled, but that was until [Bruno] Fernandes came in, ”Sherwood told Sky Sports.

Tottenham Eye Move pour King

Tottenham Hotspur have found a new attacking target after missing Ollie Watkins.

Spurs were one of the Premier League clubs linked to Watkins before Aston Villa signed him with a record £ 28million earlier this week.

The former Brentford forward scored on his debut to give Villa a friendly 1-0 pre-season victory over Manchester United on Saturday.

Villa have reportedly made a £ 16million move for Josh King from Bournemouth – but they face stiff competition.

It is now reported that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho may move for King after being put off by Watkins’ price. Spurs are looking for a new striker and were also linked with Callum Wilson before joining Newcastle United.
