Arsenal’s impressive transfer activity has already paid off in the club’s winning start to the season. New signings Gabriel Magalhaes and Willian, as well as returning Real Madrid player Dani Ceballos have shone to help the Gunners win their first two games.

And while Mikel Arteta’s side have maintained their momentum after capping last season with an FA Cup triumph, the North Londoners are expected to be active in the final two weeks of the transfer window.

Arteta is keen to sign a central midfielder with one or two underprivileged players who are also expected to leave Emirates Stadium before the October 5 deadline.

With that in mind, here are the latest Arsenal transfer rumors …

Torreira will join Atletico after Herrera’s departure

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira set to join Atletico Madrid

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira will join Atletico Madrid once the Spanish club offload Hector Herrera, according to Mundo Deportivo and AS.

Torreira joined Arsenal from Sampdoria in 2018 and initially played for Unai Emery’s side, but found his opportunities limited under Arteta.

However, Atletico boss Diego Simeone wants the 24-year-old to challenge Saul Niguez and Thomas Partey in midfield.

The move from the Uruguayan international to Atleti, reportedly on loan, hinges on Los Colchoneros finding a suitor in Herrera, who failed to impress after arriving from Porto last summer.

Partey more likely to join Arsenal

Thomas Partey is wanted by Arsenal

Arsenal are more likely to land Thomas Partey than Houssem Aouar, according to Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Speaking on the latest episode of Ask Ornstein, he revealed that Partey looks more likely given his strengths as a defensive midfielder.

Partey and Aouar are Arsenal’s two main goals in the midfield, but signing the two could cost the club nearly £ 100million, with the Frenchman valued at £ 54million and the Ghanaian’s contract containing a clause release date of £ 45million.

Partey, who has passed through Atletico youth academy, has been a regular at Simeone in recent years, while Aouar has become an Arsenal target after impressing Lyon in the League team’s race 1 in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Nelson ready for a loan

Reiss Nelson could go on loan this summer

In addition to providing an update on Partey and Aouar, David Ornstein says Arsenal are ready to let winger Reiss Nelson go on loan this season.

Nelson has played a small role under Arteta, with the 20-year-old failing to make the Premier League squad this season, having become a late replacement in the Community Shield against Liverpool.

Nelson has already been on loan as he scored seven times during a productive stint with Hoffenheim in Germany during the 2018/19 season.

Speaking last week, Arteta spoke positively about Nelson’s development after being impressed with him in training.

“I think they all realize the competition that we have in the advanced positions,” Arteta said.

“I’ve talked to Reiss about this before and I really like the way he trains.

“I think we both agree on how he’s improved over the past few months and he’s going to continue to push himself and the rest of the squad.

“He has to be ready because in football unfortunately or fortunately things don’t take three months to change, it can take three minutes and you have to be ready when that opportunity presents itself. “
