Valencia have become the last contender for Arsenal rebel Matteo Guendouzi as Unai Emery prepares a decision for the Frenchman.
Matteo Guendouzi may have found an exciting opportunity to reunite with his former boss Unai Emery as Valencia have now investigated the Arsenal star, according to Super Deporte.
The Frenchman is expected to leave the club this summer after falling out with Mikel Arteta and has even been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, it appears Valencia have identified him as a perfect alternative for their main goals to Yangel Herrera and Etienne Capoue.
Guendouzi, who was considered one of the Premier League’s most promising players before the start of the 2019/20 campaign, suffered a rapid drop from grace in the 12 months.
The young midfielder first fell out with Arteta and his coaching staff earlier this year, during their training camp in Dubai. Moreover, his lack of temperament and his overly aggressive attitude are not really favored by the Arsenal manager and this was obvious following his argument with Neal Maupay, during the match against Brighton & Hove Albion, just after Project Restart .
It was Guendouzi’s last game as an Arsenal player, as the midfielder hasn’t been in a single game since. It was combined with the rapid improvement of Dani Ceballos as well as the rejuvenation of Granit Xhaka.
And although Arsenal have had to deal with Ceballos leaving this summer on their way back to Real Madrid, the club are keen to sell Guendouzi, who will also be desperate to leave Emirates in an attempt to restart his career.
Valencia, in this regard, could be an interesting option. The Spanish side are looking for a new central midfielder after the departures of Dani Parejo and ex-Arsenal star Francis Coquelin earlier this summer.
Guendouzi could well fit into the double pivot of Emery’s 4-2-3-1, alongside Geoffrey Kondogbia. He already knows Emery quite well as the Spanish coach had been instrumental in his initial rise to strength in 2018/19. Therefore, the youngster should have no difficulty finding consistent playing time at Valencia.
Arsenal, however, will not be too keen to get rid of their precious assets at a reduced price. In fact, the sale of Guendouzi could be one of their main sources of income amid the coronavirus pandemic that has hit the club hard financially. So it will be interesting to see if Valencia can match the midfielder’s price this summer.
