ADAMA TRAORE has become the latest Premier League star to test positive for coronavirus and has been forced to withdraw from the Spanish squad, according to reports.
The Wolves winger, 24, was hoping to land his first senior international selection for Luis Enrique’s side.
Now it looks like he will miss not only the two Spanish Nations League games but also the opening game of the new Premier League season.
Indeed, according to Marca, he has contracted Covid-19 and will therefore have to self-isolate for 14 days.
Traoré was due to fly to Spain to join his Spanish teammates, but the positive result meant he was not allowed to leave.
UEFA has strict protocols in place to try to reduce the risk of the disease spreading despite players traveling across the continent.
However, it is believed that if Traore returns a negative test today, he will be given the green light to leave.
Spain has already had to compose without Mikel Oyarzabal following his positive result.
It looks like another hammer blow for the Wolves speedster who impressed at Molineux last season, recording six goals and 12 assists.
This has seen him attract a lot of transfer attention both from the Premier League – led by Liverpool and Manchester City – and from abroad, including former club Barcelona.
However, Traoré – who also remains eligible to represent Mali – is still waiting to make his Spain debut.
He was called up to the squad last November but had to retire due to an injury he sustained the day after his selection.
Spain will face Germany on Thursday and then Ukraine on Sunday in their double-header as Wolves start their new season with a trip to Sheffield United on September 14.
