Yankees trade for Giants’ Rob Brantly to add depth of capture


The Yankees added a capture depth five days before the MLB trade deadline.The team announced on Wednesday that they had traded to Giants wide receiver Rob Brantly in exchange for cash consideration. Brantly is one of the Yankees’ 60 players and will report to the team’s alternate site in Scranton.

Brantly, 31, has appeared in just one game for the Giants this season following a Big League appearance with the Phillies in 2019. A .228 career hitter, he has made 127 MLB appearances since 2012, previously playing for the Marlins and the White Sox. He was nominated for an assignment by the Giants on July 28 and assigned to the team’s alternate site on August 1.

Brantly hit .314 last season with Lehigh Valley, the Phillies’ Triple-A branch.
