Suncor Energy Inc. says it will be until early September before production of mined bitumen resumes at its base mining plant in Fort McMurray, Alta.
The Calgary-based company released an update on plant operations following a fire in the plant’s extraction area on August 14.
Suncor says the fire was brought out quickly, extinguished several hours later and no one was injured.
He says regulators have been notified and that maintenance scheduled for Q3 has been accelerated before the return to normal operations.
Bitumen that was already available at the plant continues to be processed as Suncor says its two upgraders at the plant remain on-line and operate at minimum rates.
The company has not disclosed the cause of the fire, but said it will release a new operational update early next month.
