The casting is (almost) closed. On this season of the new HBO series Perry Mason the titular detective (played by Matthew Rhys) has doggedly investigated the gruesome murder of Charlie Dodson. He stood up for Charlie’s mother, Emily (Gayle Rankin), whom almost everyone believes committed the crime. In the process, he discovered a web of deception and corruption connected with the church of Sister Alice (Tatiana Maslany), the Radiant Assembly of God.
What happened in episode 7 of ‘Perry Mason’?

In Episode 7, Mason discovered that the Radiant Coven was in serious financial trouble after wealthy Herman Baggerly (Robert Patrick) stopped his generous donations. Charlie’s kidnapping was probably a ploy to get Baggerly, the child’s grandfather, to pay a ransom of $ 100,000. The money would save the deeply in debt mega-church. But the boy’s accidental death meant the kidnappers had to find someone to blame for his murder.
Mason is more convinced than ever that his client Emily is innocent. But will he be able to convince a jury? Viewers will find out in the season finale of Perry Mason, aired on August 9.
Will there be a season 2 of “Perry Mason”?
Presumably, this season of Perry Mason will end with a verdict in the Emily Dodson trial. However, no one can guess whether she will be found guilty or innocent. But this might not be the last we see of Emily, Sister Alice, and some of the other colorful characters we’ve met this season. This is because HBO has renewed the series.
“It has been an exciting journey working with the immensely talented team behind Perry MasonHBO Programming Executive Vice President Francesca Orsi said in a statement. “Viewers loved being transported back to 1930s Los Angeles time each week, and we are delighted to host the show for a second season.”
HBO hasn’t announced a premiere date for Season 2. There’s also no word on the cast, though we have to assume Rhys will be back as Mason. It remains to be seen whether Juliet Rylance as legal secretary for Mason Della Street, Shea Whigham as investigator Pete Strickland and Chris Chalk as cop Paul Drake will return.
‘Perry Mason’ was meant to be a limited series

The news that Perry Mason has been renewed for season 2 is kind of a surprise. The show was originally presented as a limited series. But Rhys told Collider that continuing the story is a possibility, depending on the response to the show.
“The order was a limited series, and that’s what HBO was,” the actor said. “They talked about a second series, but I think it depends on how that first is broadcast. But back then, that’s all there was, and that’s all they decided to do, initially, to see how it worked.
Eight million people watched the first episode of Perry Mason, according to HBO. This is the highest figure for a first round for the premium cable network in two years. And there are definitely more Mason stories to tell. The character was introduced in a series of Erle Stanley Gardner novels that have inspired several films and a longtime TV show starring Raymond Burr. If the new Perry Mason Continuing to be popular with viewers, the justice-focused defense attorney could become a television set again.
