The Irish star narrowly beat Persoon on points in their first fight, a decision that was hotly contested, but Taylor received a wider verdict in the second leg with scores of 98-93, 96-94 and 96- 94.

Fourteen months after their magnificent fight at Madison Square Garden, Taylor engaged Persoon in yet another grueling encounter, although on this occasion the Belgian did not complain about the verdict.

In a razor-sharp opening, Taylor’s crisp right hand had knocked Persoon off balance before fighting against the canvas.

An ugly swelling was in front of Persoon in the second round, a sign of Taylor’s hurtful job, but boxer Bray had to resist a thud with his right hand in the third.

Persoon was trying to tempt Taylor into another reckless battle, hitting some crass punches in the fourth.

A sleek hook from Taylor was answered with a booming right from Persoon in a frenzied fifth.

Taylor got up and traded in the sixth, perhaps a bit too long, as she was surprised by a pounding right, and Persoon pumped relentless punches in the seventh.

Yet another right hand from Persoon sparked a fierce trade with Taylor in the eighth round.

In the ninth, Taylor tried to chock Persoon’s charge with a right hand, and his persistent and more precise work was rewarded on the scorecards after the 10th.

“It’s never easy against Delfine, she’s relentless,” Taylor said. “I knew I had to dig deep. I boxed better last time. I stayed more true to my boxing. It allowed me to pass. I hit her with sharp shots but she attacked the whole time.

“What two incredible fights for women’s boxing. I was more convincing tonight. I got a convincing victory. ”

Persoon said: “This time I respect the result. The weight was too heavy. I ate, ate, ate, but I didn’t have the power to hurt her.

“I couldn’t hurt her. And if you can’t hurt her, she’s technical and short. You have to hurt her.

“She deserves the victory. I respect her. I have no problem. ”
