Why Twilight’s Stephenie Meyer couldn’t make more story changes with Midnight Sun

When i was writing dusk, things were feeling good. But then I realized [Edward] would have said absolutely [Bella] he loved her earlier. There’s no way he wouldn’t have. There were certain points where I was like, “Yes, he would have said it right here. And I can’t change that. And it is very frustrating. He certainly would have done it after rescuing her in Port Angeles. He mentions this mentally where he’s a little surprised, as he reflects on their conversation when he speaks to her again, that he hasn’t said it. He’s like, ‘Oh, isn’t she conscious?’ But still, I feel like if I had had the freedom to rework it instead of just talking on its own, there would have been some fun changes.
