President Nancy Pelosi has publicly urged Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden not to debate Donald Trump this fall, saying the president’s behavior on stage would be simply “an exercise in underhandedness.”

“Don’t tell anyone I told you that -” Ms Pelosi said in front of a room of reporters and TV cameras at an official press conference, “ [but] I don’t think there should be any debate. ”

Ms Pelosi criticized the president for saying, in Le Washington PostThe latest count of the latter, tens of thousands of false or misleading statements during his three and a half years of presidency.

“I don’t think the President of the United States behaved in a way that… has any connection to the truth, the evidence, the data and the facts. I would not legitimize a conversation with him, ”said the speaker.

She admitted that the Biden campaign thought differently and that her position was not the official Democratic one.

Ms Pelosi, who has not spoken personally with Mr Trump for more than 10 months – during which her chamber impeached him, negotiated billions of dollars in aid to fight the coronavirus pandemic and held several High-level watchdog hearings over his administrative actions – highlighted the president’s debating performance against Hillary Clinton in 2016 as evidence of his outrageous behavior.

“What he did in 2016 was shameful, stalking Hillary Clinton like that. … He will likely act in a way that does not respect the dignity of the Presidency. He does this every day, ”Ms. Pelosi said.

While Ms Pelosi has cautioned against giving Mr Trump another prime-time opportunity to make misleading statements to the nation during the three presidential debates scheduled for this fall, Mr Biden sees it differently.

Recalled last week by ABC News’s David Muir of reports that Mr. Trump is already preparing for the debate stage, Mr. Biden’s face lit up.

” Me too. I can’t wait to wait, ”he says.

Trump’s controversial senior adviser Stephen Miller has offered surprisingly rave reviews of Mr Biden’s past debate performances, admitting he is a formidable foe.

The former vice president is “actually a very good debater” who “doesn’t have as many blunders as in his daily talks,” Miller said, according to the Publish.

The first presidential debate will be held at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio on September 29. Two more are scheduled for Miami, Florida, and Nashville, Tennessee, on October 15 and 22, respectively.
