The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is not telling the British to leave immediately.
People are urged to follow local rules, return home normally, and check the travel advice pages on gov.uk.
Either way, it can be difficult to get home earlier. For example, Eurotunnel Le Shuttle declared: “The service is already very busy this weekend and there is no additional capacity.

What are the isolation rules?
When you arrive in the UK, go straight to where you are staying. Only use public transport if you have no other option and wear a face mask and stay two meters from other people.
Stay at your isolation address for 14 days – this is the address you identified on your Public Health Passenger Tracking Form.
Have basic necessities delivered and not receive visitors unless they provide emergency assistance or a few other essential services.
Do not go out to work, school or other public places. Don’t go shopping. Instead, arrange a delivery with the help of the store or friends and family.
In England you should only exercise in your home or garden. You cannot go for a walk with your dog. You will need to ask friends or relatives for help. Read more here.

What if my employer is unhappy with my isolation instead of coming to work?
Foreign Minister Dominic Raab had previously said no worker following quarantine guidelines should be penalized by employers, including being put on sick pay.
He said that if someone follows the law on quarantine and self-isolation, “they cannot be penalized.”
