Leonard Taylor, a five-star rookie from Miami, will appear on CBS Sports HQ on Thursday, August 6 at 1 p.m. ET to announce his engagement. You can watch Taylor’s announcement live in the video at the top of this page at that time, on the CBS Sports app or via your connected device (Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV).

Taylor, the nation’s 27th rookie from Miami Palmetto High School, will choose between the Miami hometown Hurricanes and the Florida Gators.

At 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds, Taylor is considered Florida’s No.6 player for the 2021 cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Despite the offerings of many huge programs across the country, Taylor has recently focused on Miami and Florida. The Gators took a big step forward to enter Palmetto High School, but the Hurricanes could not only keep Taylor in town, but also get some of his teammates back.

Sports expert Charles Power provided this screening report on Taylor:

Has little weight with the frame and length to nail more weight into the upper body and midsection. Should see his body transform once he’s in a full time weight training and conditioning program to the next level. Is a fluid and natural athlete playing along the defensive line. Uses its length to disengage from opposing offensive linemen and wins with a solid first step and quick swim stroke. Incredibly disruptive as an inside pass hitter. He gets his hands on a lot of balls, whether it’s using his long arms to disrupt passing lanes or blocking kicks. Play with a good pad level and a slim body. Find several ways to disrupt the offensive game plan. Will need to continue improving his strength at the point of attack and his ability to hold his position as a double team. He appears to be one of the top 2021 cycle prospects in the world and among the best defensive linemen to come out of South Florida in years. Projects as a multi-year starter at the Power Five level with potential for all leagues and all Americans and the benefit of becoming a first-round pick.

Taylor was named Under Armor All-American and first All-Dade 8A-6A selection by the Miami Herald in 2019. The 247Sports crystal ball is pivotal in his analysis of Taylor’s destination.
