ITV has rehearsed old episodes of Vera to fans’ delight, but bosses have now confirmed production of new installments is underway. ITV and Silverprint Pictures have revealed that Brenda Blethyn will return as DCI Vera Stanhope for six thrilling feature-length episodes set against the backdrop of the Northeast.
Details of the first two episodes have been revealed and it looks like DCI Stanhope will face its most difficult investigation yet.
The Eleventh Series opens when the body of well-respected local builder Jim Tullman is found beaten to death on the steps of the Collingwood monument.

DCI Stanhope wonders how such a beloved and imposing figure could be attacked so viciously.
The mystery deepens when she discovers that Tullman was scheduled to testify in court as a key witness to a violent assault.
Could these two crimes be linked?
As Vera delves deeper into Jim’s life, she discovers an unresolved bitterness between ex-wife Barbara and beloved son John Paul, as tensions with old family friends Gary and Lesley Clayton threaten to spill over.
Executive Producer Phil Hunter added, “In the aftermath of the pandemic, I am particularly delighted to announce the return of Vera.
“Like a lot of productions, we had to postpone filming to March and simultaneously start working on a plan on how we could bring the series back.
“What’s great about drama production is the creativity, innovation and drive of everyone who works there, in front of and behind the camera.
“Vera is coming back stronger than ever with six new episodes, and while we follow COVID protocols, it will keep everyone safe.
