Microsoft says it still wants to buy TikTok in the USMicrosoft has confirmed that it is still in negotiations to buy the Chinese video app TikTok, with reports that Donald Trump has given negotiations a 45-day deadline.

The news comes just after TikTok’s US chief executive, Vanessa Pappas, stood up for the app, saying “we’re here for the long haul.”

Donald Trump threatened to ban TikTok from the United States as early as last weekend, but ultimately took no action, instead discussing his plans with Microsoft.

In a statement on Sunday, the company announced that after a discussion between the chairman and its CEO, Satya Nadella, it is still committed to purchasing the app, “subject to a full security review” and ‘a deadline of mid-September.

The U.S. tech giant also pledged to “ensure that all private data of U.S. TikTok users is transferred and remains in the United States”, amid national security concerns – the likely sticking point to determine the future of TikTok in the United States.
