Donald Trump sparked a familiar barrage of criticism on Saturday by visiting one of his own golf clubs as the country remains caught in many escalating crises, from the raging coronavirus outbreak to anti-racist protests by the way by the inability to extend benefits to tens of millions of unemployed Americans. .

Trump arrived at his Virginia golf club in the morning, according to a report from the White House swimming pool, after leaving Washington in procession and dressed in his usual golf attire, a baseball cap and a polo shirt.

CNN, which counts Trump’s trips to his golf clubs, reported that the visit was Trump’s 283rd trip to a golf course while in the office and his 376th day at Trump property.

During the 2016 campaign and before, Trump often criticized then-President Barack Obama for his visits to the golf course and claimed he would be too busy to play the sport if he was president. Since taking office, Trump’s visits to golf courses have far exceeded those of Obama.

Trump’s latest visit comes as the United States’ death toll from the coronavirus exceeds 153,000 with more than 4.5 million positive cases – by far the highest total in the world. It also happens when Washington fails to agree on an extension of a life-saving payment of $ 600 to unemployed Americans – who will now lose that benefit.

The visit drew widespread criticism online, including from some anti-Trump Republicans.

“I’m glad he plays golf. I would pay him to play golf for the rest of his presidency. The country would be a lot safer and a lot better if it just played golf for the next 5-6 months, ”tweeted Joe Walsh, a former Republican congressman who launched a brief failed attempt to oust Trump as as party candidate in 2020. election.
