Tottenham have had preliminary talks on signing longtime goal Demarai Gray from Leicester City this summer, Football insider understands.
Spurs manager Jose Mourinho has stepped up his pursuit of the wide forward, 23, after being encouraged for a potential deal.
An industry source said Football insider that Mourinho has personally spoken to Gray, 24, as he seeks to convince him to move to north London.
Gray is believed to be open to the possibility of a move to Tottenham after failing to secure a regular starting spot on Brendan Rodgers’ side.
The winger is mainly used as a replacement for the Foxes and only made three Premier League starts last season out of 29 appearances in all competitions.
He has entered the final year of his contract at Leicester and they may be forced to take advantage of that window rather than risk allowing him to terminate his contract and leave for nothing.
Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was also a fervent admirer of Gray’s dynamism, electric pace and ability to be at the forefront in the final third.
Spurs made an offer for him before signing an improved contract with Leicester in 2017 and have continued to monitor his progress.
He has now racked up 167 appearances for the Foxes since signing from Birmingham City, racking up 13 goals and 17 assists.
He made 78 appearances for the Blues before moving from the West to the East Midlands four years ago.
In other news it can be revealed that Tottenham have accepted a new seven-figure offer for one of their players.
