The most dominant club in sport plays women’s football in France

The women’s football teams who have the misfortune to face Olympique Lyonnais all undergo the same exercise in the days preceding their meeting. They watch a heartbreaking tape. They harden mentally. And their coaches are preparing to answer the same question: what it’s like to face the stronger clubteam that sport has ever known?
Inevitably, they all give versions of the same answer. “Lyon are not unbeatable,” Bayern Munich coach Jens Scheuer said last week.
Inevitably, Lyon beat Bayern.
The club have made their way through Europe and are on the brink of a fifth straight Women’s Champions League title. Only Wolfsburg stands in the way in Sunday’s final – not that Lyon need a game to confirm their status as perhaps the most dominant team in professional sports today.
Take Lyon’s record in France: the team has won the last 14 French league titles and eight national cups. He hasn’t lost as much as a game since late 2016.
