PARIS (AP) – Armed with knives, some knowledge of their prey and a great deal of cruelty, the attackers prey on horses and ponies in pastures across France in what could be ritual mutilation. Police are thwarted by the grisly attacks which include cuts and worse. More often than not, one ear, usually the correct one, was cut off, reminiscent of the matador’s trophy in an arena. Agriculture Minister Julien Denormandie said there had been as many as 30 attacks scattered from eastern France to the west. Many have taken place this summer, but one was recorded in February. However, the mystery is only growing.
