Continuing the story of one of DC Comics’ most famous creations, The Batman, featuring Robert pattinson as a Capped Crusader, is directed by Matt Reeves and is slated for release next year.
For the first time, fans can get a glimpse of Paul Dano’s Riddler and Zoe KravitzCatwoman as well as the new Batmobile and Batcycle from Batman.
The two-minute video, which premiered at the DC FanDome virtual convention, is set to Nirvana’s haunting 1991 track Something In The Way.
The trailer starts off with an anonymous villain slapping a victim on the head. Although his identity is obscured by a gas mask, it seems likely to be The Riddler.
“No more lies” is scribbled on the duct tape in red marker.
A distorted voice, considered to be that of The Riddler, reads a rhyme: “From your secret friend.” Who? Don’t you have a clue? Let’s play a game, just you and me. ”
The same voice is heard later: “If you are righteous, do not lie. What is the price of your blind? ”
The Riddler is a criminal mastermind who enjoys incorporating word games and puzzles into his evil plans.
Director Reeves previously said Dano’s Riddler would “wow people.”
The supervillain was played by Jim Carrey in Batman Forever in 1995.
A second foe of Bruce Wayne, Catwoman, is also seen rappelling through a glass-ceilinged building and locked vault.
Catwoman was played by Halle Berry in the 2004 movie Catwoman and by Michelle Pfeiffer in the 1992 movie Batman Returns.
While hooded crusader Alfred Pennyworth’s butler does not make an appearance in the trailer, the voice of Andy Serkis playing him can be heard commenting on Batman’s celebrity status.
James Bond and Westworld star Jeffrey Wright is also Gotham City police chief Commissioner Gordon.
The trailer ends with Batman defeating a gang of thugs and telling them, “I’m avenging. ”
The Twilight star Pattinson will follow in the footsteps of Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Val Kilmer and George Clooney as he plays the Dark Knight.
