Several NFL teams on Thursday canceled practice to discuss social injustice, and the Ravens were the next team to issue a powerful statement about the shooting.

Adam Schefter, an ESPN NFL insider, retweeted the statement on Twitter, with a message saying, “One of my bosses called this the ‘best statement I’ve ever seen from a sports team.’
The statement said: “With another example of racial discrimination with the Jacob Blake shooting and the illicit abuse of peaceful protesters, we MUST unite as a society. It is imperative that all people – regardless of race, religion, creed or creed – come together to say: Enough is enough!
“It’s bigger than sport. Racism is ingrained in the fabric of our nation’s foundations and is a stain in our country’s history. If we are to change course and make our world a better place, we must face this problem head-on and act now to embrace positive change, ”the Raven’s statement continued. “It is time to accept responsibility and recognize the ramifications of slavery and racial injustice.”

“Arrest and charge the police officers responsible for the murder of Breonna Taylor and the shooting of Jacob Blake,” the statement said. “Demand that Senator Mitchell McConnell put the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2020 to a vote in the Senate. End qualified immunity; require body cameras; ban strangulations and no-go warrants; hold the police accountable in court; establish a framework to prohibit racial profiling at the federal, state, and local levels; and support CALEA accreditation and national standards of care in state and federal law enforcement agencies.

The Ravens continued, “Encourage everyone to engage in the political process by registering to vote locally and nationally, demand a fair and equitable reform of prison sentencing, encourage every citizen to act with respect and compliance when engaging with the police. If you believe there has been abuse of authority, we encourage you to contact the Internal Affairs Unit of your police department.
“We will use our platform to drive change now – not just for our generation, but for generations to come, for our sons and daughters and for their children.”
