Legend

Vitoria Mario was unable to speak English when she arrived in the UK four years ago

Vitoria said her family could not afford to support herself and needed funds to help pay for her housing, laptop, textbooks and general living expenses. She said Swift’s approach came “out of nowhere.”

The 18-year-old had written on her page: “Although my story is not unique, my dream of becoming a mathematician is not only a chance for social mobility for my family and me, but also to inspire people who have held similar positions aspire to be the best version of themselves. ”

She added that she had always been ‘studious’ and was unable to speak English when she moved to the UK in 2016.

Despite this inconvenience, she left school with two A * and one A in her A-level.

Upon arriving in the UK, Vitoria had to make the difficult decision to leave Portugal, where her mother still lives.

“Getting away from her was a challenge, but it was a sacrifice worth making in the eyes of my family,” she added.

She estimated that she would need £ 24,000 for accommodation, £ 3,000 for equipment and £ 13,000 for general living costs, including food, transport, gas and electricity.

Swift has already made a number of impromptu donations to fans whose stories she’s read online, including a New York photographer who requested financial support through Tumbler.
