Strange things Star Noah Schnapp has denied using any racial slurs in a remodeled video, saying he instead said “neighbor” in the clip.
The actor, who plays Will Byers on the hit Netflix show, recently came under scrutiny online when a fan shared the leaked footage on Twitter.
In it, Schnapp can be seen singing along with Chris Brown and Lil Dicky ‘Freaky Friday’ in the back of a car with his friends.
In response to the backlash, the 15-year-old took to his Instagram story this week to apologize for using a surrogate word and to insist his friends “would never post any video or support. [him] If he was, in fact, using such an offensive term.
“Hi guys, recently a video came out last summer of me dancing and singing singing the word ‘neighbor’ over the n word. I really would never say the n word and I’m not the type of person, ”Schnapp began.
“I really never used that word in my life. Using the word “neighbor” in this song was just something my friends at camp and I did.

“I apologize for using a substitute word. It’s not for me to use one and I should keep my mouth shut. I understand why it is deemed offensive and I am sorry. “
It comes less than two weeks after Schnapp told his followers his Twitter account had been hacked, after posting several inappropriate tweets on his page.
