Stars to face Avalanche in Western Conference second round

The Dallas Stars will face the Colorado Avalanche in the second round of the Western Conference.

Dallas, the third seed, beat the Calgary Flames in six games in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Second-seeded Colorado eliminated the Arizona Coyotes in five games.“Now getting into the last eight… it’s going to come down to execution and that can elevate their game,” said Avalanches coach Jared Bednar. “… Every team has a chance to win in this thing, maybe this year more than any other year. ”

The Stars have won all four games against the Avalanche this season. Roope Hintz (two goals, two assists) and John Klingberg (four assists) each scored four points, and Radek Faksa and Jason Dickinson scored two goals each. Ben Bishop was 3-0-0, allowing five goals on 123 shots (1.61 goals against average, .959 save percentage). Anton Khudobin made 38 saves in a 2-1 win on November 1.

Nathan MacKinnon led the Avalanche with three points (one goal, two assists), and JT Compher (two goals), Calle Makar (two assists) and Matt Nieto (two assists) each scored two points. Philipp Grubauer was 0-2-2 with a GAA of 2.70 and a save percentage of 0.920.

“I think we’re going to do like we did in the first round and focus on ourselves and we’re going to have to use everyone on the ice to make sure we’re ready for the second round,” said the defender of the Avalanche. Samuel Girard said. “We know it’s going to be more and more difficult so we’ll have to be ready for the second round and make sure we’re on the same page. ”

This will be the fifth playoff series between Dallas and Colorado. Each has won two, with the Avalanche winning the most recent in five games in the Western Conference quarterfinals in 2006.

The Stars and Avalanche each reached the second round for the second straight season. The best-of-7 series will be played at Rogers Place in Edmonton, the hub city of the Western Conference.
