Sophie, Countess of Wessex forced to sacrifice her current royal role after family crisis | Royal | News

According to a royal commentator, Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Prince Edward Earl of Wessex, may find their “profile being raised” following the withdrawal of royals from public life. Richard Fitzwilliams spoke to about how the Wessex have had “huge success” in their engagements and duties. However, he warned the couple would not be particularly happy to have to sacrifice their privacy.

Mr Fitzwilliams said: “I think they can increase the number of tasks they do because they have both done extremely well.“Many years ago they had to give up the idea that you could be royal while still having a job.

“They’ve had huge success as full-time royals, and they’re doing it in an unspectacular and low-key way.

“I think they’re probably thankful for that, someone like Princess Anne certainly appreciates that. ”

He continued, “The fact that the press does not follow their every move is welcome.

“There is certainly not the interest there is in the Queen, Charles, Camilla, William and Kate.

“I don’t think they would want that, I think they just want to be able to fulfill their royal duties and commitments.

“They do it extremely well, there’s no question about it. “

Mr Fitzwilliams also told that the Wessexes are “closely following in the footsteps” of Princess Anne.

He spoke of the inspiration Sophie gets from her sister-in-law’s role as a working royal, highlighting the Princess Royal’s no-frills approach to engagements.

He said of Anne: “I think over the decades the public has respected her work ethic enormously.

“That’s basically what people expect from her, and that’s what she does.

“The Wessex are following the same footsteps. The Wessexes and Princess Anne are examples of monarchy at its best. “
