Word started to spread yesterday that Tax collector was doing pretty well, with $ 115,000 for the day. The film was played in a mix of the country’s best drive-ins and major indoor venues. At Vineland Drive-In just outside of Los Angeles, The tax collector has plotted both Saturday and Friday the highest earners in a single day since they reopened. Vineland did so well, they added a second showing last night. Also good with Tax collector were Paramount and Mission Tikki drive-ins in Southern California. Dallas also had a good drive-in at the Coyote as well as hardtops in Houston at IPIC and San Antonio at the Santikos Theaters.
Also, I hear Tax collector made stellar VOD / digital numbers grossing $ 1 million for the weekend and ranks # 1 on iTunes.
In third place, Universal’s 1993 jurassic park with roughly 138 K $ from 235 locations. Until the weekend of 1418, the lifespan of the photo was $ 407.7 million.
Fourth is part of Dave Franco’s third IFC weekend Location which generated a cumulative total of $ 1.178 million over 3 days of 123,7 K $. That takes IFC’s cumulative box office during the pandemic of its new titles to $ 4 million and up. IFC also directed James D’Arcy’s comedy Liam Neeson. Made in italy who did 34,4 K $ across 111 sites, and ranked as one of the 2 best photos on iTunes taking # 1 on the Comedy, Drama and Romance charts. Rent maintained the top spot on the horror chart.
The no. 5 movie was from Disney / Pixar Upside down with about 120 000 $ on 100 sites. Pic’s lifespan is approximately $ 356.9 million.
Also open this weekend Train to Busan Presents Peninsula in Canada with 47 races and a Friday-Saturday catch of 83 K $ (The weekend will probably land in the $ 100,000 range). While this take wasn’t as good as the photo theater play in South Korea, where it grossed well over $ 27 million, Cineplex theaters have shown signs of life in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmunton Canada.
Again, major tours are generally not open yet (Cinemark has sites open in the Dallas area), with AMC, Regal, and Cinemark coming next weekend.
