Samuel Umtiti is not part of the Barcelona Champions League squad

Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has tested positive for coronavirus but was not with the rest of the squad for their Champions League quarter-final loss to Bayern Munich.

The Frenchman is currently injured and tested positive at the Barcelona training ground on Thursday.

It is asymptomatic and self-isolates at home.

Umtiti is the second player to test positive in preparation for Barcelona’s 8-2 beating by Bayern Munich, the two players who tested positive are not in Lisbon.

The players tested on Tuesday were: Pedri, Trincao, Matheus Fernandes, Jean-Clair Todibo, Moussa Wague, Carles Alena, Rafinha, Juan Miranda and Oriol Busquets.

Barcelona said in a statement: “After the PCR tests carried out on Thursday, the first player of the team Samuel Umtiti tested positive for Covid-19. The player is asymptomatic, is in good health and is isolating himself at home.

“The club informed the relevant sporting and health authorities and traced all the people who had contact with the player so that they could undergo the corresponding PCR tests. ”

The non-Barcelona squad returned to pre-season training on Wednesday.
