Saint-Louis police officer dies after being shot while responding to shooting

Officer Tamarris L. Bohannon, 29, died on Sunday. He was a three and a half year veteran of the police service.

Bohannon was seriously injured on Saturday responding to the call for a shooting. The officer was looking for a gunshot victim before he was shot in the head, said Col. John Hayden Jr., St. Louis police commissioner. A second officer was injured in the leg.

The suspect was taken into custody after a 12-hour standoff.

“This is our eighth shot in the line of duty, trying to get the job done, that’s all they are trying to do,” Hayden said. “And they, they suffer from gunfire. “

St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson said in a statement she was heartbroken over Bohannon’s death and spent time with her family.

“They are great people and extremely proud of the way he has served and protected our community with distinction and honor for over three years,” said Krewson. “It’s a horrific reminder of the dangers our brave men and women face every day in keeping us safe. ”

In addition to the two officers Shot dead on Saturday, four Saint-Louis police officers were shot in June, one in July and another on August 3, the department said.
